This CME activity is designed to enhance the family medicine physicians understanding of hepatic encephalopathy, with a focus on recognition, differential diagnosis, diagnostic testing, and timely referral. The expert faculty, Dr. Arun Jesudian, will first review the varied clinical presentations of hepatic encephalopathy to facilitate earlier diagnostic consideration and targeted testing. Following, he will examine the evidence supporting diagnostic strategies, including FIB-4 and noninvasive tests such as transient elastography to assess liver fibrosis. Lastly, Dr. Jesudian will discuss the development of practical evaluation, referral strategies, and specialist relationships that facilitate early initiation of optimal hepatic encephalopathy management of affected patients.
