Review the multiple pathophysiologic mechanisms including the role of IL-5 in type 2 inflammation, which may contribute to the development and persistence of severe asthma.
Discuss the standard of care for the diagnosis and timely initiation of evidence-based treatment of severe asthma, including approved and emerging IL-5 therapies to minimize exacerbations.
Address patient comorbidities and their impact on asthma-related outcomes.
Develop strategies to identify and address barriers including healthcare disparities and inequities to the optimal care of patients with severe asthma through patient education and shared decision making.
